In Character Information

character name: Garrett Hawke
Fandom: Dragon Age II, PC version.
Timeline: Post-’The Deep Roads Expedition’, start of Act 2
character's age: Around 28 years old.
powers, skills, pets and equipment:
Skills: This Hawke is a dual wielding rogue; he handles two daggers swiftly and with ease. And if he ever had the need to learn, he could swiftly handle a bow and arrow as well. But his prefered choice is the daggers. And with these moves, he’s able to move quickly to reach around and stab them in the back, or thrust them behind him to attack the person’s front. He’s quick and nimble, but also strong, deftly defeating enemies with little to no problems at all.

Equipment: Hawke will come in his armor (which is very basic), and be bringing along with him two daggers; The Mercenary Shankers, which offer some extra damage to his already swift moves.

Powers+Pets: N/A
canon history: All about Hawke

Due to Dragon Age’s whole custom choice, Garrett can be made into almost anyone. For the sake of this personality section and for how I’ll be playing him in the game:

- He will be diplomatic/helpful dialogue choice.
- He will have not started a romance with anyone yet.
- He brings Bethany with him rather than leave her behind, with Anders coming along to bring her to the Grey Wardens.
personality: Garrett Hawke believes in a few core values. Above all else, he believes in solving things with his words over rather than his weapons, if possible. He doesn’t like to threaten to get his answers, instead he asks, and tries to talk things through with the other person (unless his family is at risk of being harmed, to which it goes all out the window). He’s got a kind heart for these situations, and wants to help however he can, with no complaints and no questions (when he was asked if he would deliver the knight-commander’s head on a spike, he simply replied ‘Is that what you request?’). He’s not a fan of excuses and prefers to trudge forward through any problem; not the type to turn tail and run. Everything deserves his time, his effort, and his heart. He cares very much about Kirkwall, and the people inside of it are all important to him and for what he does. Very rarely will he reject a quest or go out of his way to do something for someone else, and tries to find whatever he can for the person who asked.

He’s a strong leader, having people who very well hate each other follow along behind him and beside each other. His words and actions inspire people to follow along behind him, no matter what. And no matter their position, they stick by his side, wherever he may lead (Aveline, for instance, is part of the guard and yet still follows him about). No matter who he happens to meet, people seem to be willing to ask for his help for their problems. He’s confident in his leadership, to a fault. Often times he says things that he knows will anger certain people. However, it’s clear that he’s doing these based completely on his own values about certain topics (he believes that everyone should be free, including mages, very much so angering Fenris, one of his companions).

There’s a lot of care for his family. He’s willing to fight his way to get them into Kirkwall, no matter the cost of the situation. He fights his way through Darkspawn to get them all to safety with no question about it, refusing to stop for anything. When Carver is attacked by an orge, he pleads to the Witch of the Wilds to find a way to save him. Likewise, when Bethany is attacked in the Deep Roads, he demands to find the Grey Wardens and for them to take her into them; although he might never see her again, he would not let her die. Like the good big brother he is, he does not let her die. And he cares very deeply for his mother, trying to find a way for her to live far better than she does now (and thanks to Bethany, he does, eventually, being able to move into his brand new home). He cares very much for all of them.

He very easily can talk to people. All his companions, he spends plenty of time getting to know very well. He’ll visit them in their homes and stay a little while to chat, or go out to find them to speak with them. He travels everywhere with these ragtag band of misfits, including a guard, an escaped slave a mage with two sides, a bloodmaged elf, an ex-pirate, and a story teller, along with his sister (until she is forced to leave). And despite everything that could (and often does) happen, he always seems to be close with them, enjoying the time they all seem to spend together. And while they don’t always get along very well, they stick with Hawke due to something about him that they feel. Garrett himself enjoys his leisure time very much with them; he seems to be a frequent visitor of the Hanged Man, a bar in the city of Kirkwall. He’s got a lot of love and care for this group of people who slowly grow closer and closer to him, and his heart is plenty big for them all.

Garrett Hawke is a very interesting man indeed. No matter what his life may hold, he’s always there for whatever the next adventure may bring him and the people in his life. He’s got a heart big enough for everyone, and the confidence to lead them with strength and pride. He’s a very good man, that Hawke.
why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? This setting is very similar to Garrett’s setting back home. Meaning that he’s use to fighting monsters and dealing with these problems on a daily basis. He’d be very strong in this setting.

Writing Samples

Network Post Sample: [There is a big, burly, bearded man who is standing, looking into the Forge.]

Is this magic? If this does what it’s suppose to, it must be.

[He clears his throat quickly.]

Good day. My name is Garrett Hawke. I was recently in Kirkwall and have appeared here, it looks like. I have never seen a place like this before in my life.

I was wondering where the best place to go would be if you were trying to find a group of people. I’m curious to see if anyone familiar has come here too. There’s a large group of people, but they would know my name well enough by this point.

If I have any other questions, I will come on here later. Thank you all for your help.

Third Person Sample: Hawke was not sure what to make of this place these days. Anatole’s mist was deep and dark, and he had yet to find the best protection to go into it for his sake. It was clear from the stories he heard (nothing like Varric’s stories which always elicited a chuckle or a smile from Garrett, no matter the subject) that it was not a place to tread lightly. Not much like what he was use to back home. But that was what they said about the Deep Roads... and they got out of it mostly unscathed (perhaps Varric disliked his brother just a little bit more).

He wondered how far he would get, but he would not go alone. He would join or, better yet, create a group of people to go along with him. And he would find a way to get through that fog to see what was at the end of it. It didn’t look like much at all but he would not risk it without someone like Anders at his side... the man was an excellent healer. And perhaps someone like Fenris who was strong and powerful with a sword. Of course Aveline would be just as good as a help. He would be proud to have any one of them escort him on this journey through here.

He spun his dagger once again in his hand, easily capturing it’s handle once more while he walked through Anatole. Before he saw someone confused and looking for something. And like the kind and generous man he was, he would not leave someone out like this. He smiled, and walked towards them, looking them in the eye. “What seems to be the problem?” Prepared to help them. By himself if he had to, he would not leave anyone to hurt.

Anything else? BLUE SKADOO WE CAN TOO
